FUSE A complete retrospective of the influential, experimental typeface publication
Launched by Neville Brody and Jon Wozencroft in 1991, was the groundbreaking FUSE leading publication design and typography to radically new and unexpected spaces. Still reverberates the enormous influence of his revolutionary approach to language and experimental typography, and today, twenty years after its launch-out as futuristic and ahead of their time scans performed by some of the most famous and influential names in the industry .
Taking as a basis the alphabet, and made possible by the advent of digital design, FUSE became a laboratory for new ideas and risks, as well as in a greenhouse of novel thoughts. Published over twenty editions, each issue was themed and included sources and specially commissioned posters by collaborators, all of which are shown here.
To commemorate the release of the number 20, TASCHEN brings you a collection of 416 pages of all numbers. Are unique to this publication FUSE19 and FUSE20, recently commissioned two numbers and never before published, along with 10 and 24 A2 posters downloadable fonts, making this edition a collector’s item box. Neville Brody is a designer, typographer, art director, brand strategist and internationally renowned educator and the founder of Research Studios network (www.researchstudios.com). Besides giving lectures and collaborate in various cultural and educational initiatives, Brody works both independently and with Research Studios designers in commercial and private projects. In 2010, Brody was awarded the Special Mention Award Designer of the Year by Prince Philip for his Design Council and was appointed to the University of the Arts London, his alma mater. In 2011 the Museum of Modern Art in New York selected the Blur source of Brody as part of its permanent design collection. Brody was also named Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) by the Royal Society of Arts in November of that year, joining many of his peers in the creative sector. Brody is dean of the Department of Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art and vice president of D & AD and chairs its education subcommittee. BBC Online also integrates the Creative Advisory Board and a member of the advisory council of the DCMS film education.Wozencroft Jon teaches at the Visual Communication Program of The Royal College of Arts in London. He is the author of The Graphic Language of Neville Brody 1 & 2 and mounted FUSE with Brody in 1991. In 1982 Jon Wozencroft founded the publishing audiovisual Touch to promote the powerful chemistry between sound and visual media. Its design and photographic work has appeared in various publications, including Fax Art, Sampler, G1, Merz to Emigre and Beyond and more recently Cover Art By.Wozencroft has also taught at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design and the London College of Printing and has lectured at numerous universities and art colleges worldwide.
